What to see in Amalfi
The Cathedral of Sant’Andrea
A wide flight of steps up from Piazza Duomo to the striped façade; the Cloister of Paradise is part of the visit.
The Paper Museum and the Valley of the Mills
Amalfi made paper for centuries in mills along its stream; the museum shows how, and the valley path starts behind the town.
Atrani
A few minutes on foot along the coast road: one of the smallest towns in Italy, with a square open to its beach.
The harbour front
Ferries, fishing boats and the view back along the coast towards Vietri.
How long is the ferry from Vietri sul Mare to Amalfi?
About 45 min on board. Travelmar’s line from Salerno stops at Vietri and calls at Cetara, Maiori and Minori before Amalfi. The timetable from 1 October lists 6 sailings a day from Vietri, the first in the morning; a new timetable starts each April and October. The adult fare is €18 return. Sailings depend on the sea: check the operator’s departures on the day.
Can you get from Vietri to Amalfi by bus?
Yes, all year: the SITA coastal line from Salerno to Amalfi stops at Vietri, 60 min on board, roughly every 30 to 60 minutes in the daytime. The road is slow and winding; sit on the left, towards the sea, for the view. Tickets cost more on board: buy them beforehand, at a ticket office or on the Unico Campania app.
Is it worth driving to Amalfi?
Rarely. The SS163 is narrow, busy from spring to autumn and can be limited to alternating number plates on peak days; parking in Amalfi is scarce and paid. The ferry is faster and the bus goes all year.
How much time do you need in Amalfi?
Half a day sees the cathedral and the town; with the paper museum, Atrani and lunch, a full day. Leaving Vietri at 09:00 and back by 19:00, the slowest ferry still leaves about 8.5 hours there.
