Is April a good time to visit the Amalfi Coast?

April is one of the best months for walking and sightseeing. Afternoons reach about 19 °C, comfortable on the steep paths and stairways between the villages, and nights are around 11.5 °C. With summer time, the sun sets around 19:40 in mid-April, so evenings are long and light. Rain is still part of spring, on about 10 days in an average April, usually in passing showers. Wildflowers line the paths and the terraces of lemons and vines are at their greenest. Easter often falls in April and the spring holidays bring the first busy weekends: check the date for your year and book ahead around it. Most hotels and restaurants have reopened by mid-month. If the sea matters most, come later; for long walks, day trips and towns with space to breathe, April is excellent.

Can you swim on the Amalfi Coast in April?

Not comfortably for most people. The sea is around 15.5 °C in recent years (2021–2025) and 15.5 °C as the 1991–2020 average, still close to its winter low because the water warms much more slowly than the air. Beach clubs open in May. On a warm, still afternoon a quick dip is possible for those used to cold water, from the free sea access next to the property; otherwise April is for looking at the sea, not for swimming in it.

How do you get around the coast in April?

From 1 April Travelmar switches to its spring and summer timetable, with more sailings linking Salerno and Vietri sul Mare with Cetara, Maiori, Minori, Amalfi and Positano; sailings still depend on the sea, so check the departures for your date. SITA buses run along the coastal road all year, and from Marina d’Albori the stop at the top of the approximately 200 steps is served towards Vietri and towards Amalfi. Regional trains from Vietri’s station run to Salerno, for Paestum, and towards Naples, stopping at Pompei. The taxi boat to the cove starts in June.
