Is March a good time to visit the Amalfi Coast?

March is the start of spring on the coast. Hillsides turn green, lemon groves are heavy with fruit and the first walkers arrive on the paths between the villages. Afternoons reach about 16 °C and nights fall to around 9 °C, so dress in layers. The weather is changeable, with rain on about 10 days in an average March, but sunny days are often clear and fresh, ideal for photography and for climbing to viewpoints without the heat of summer. Daylight grows past twelve hours in the second half of the month, and Italian summer time starts on the last Sunday, moving sunset an hour later. Many seasonal businesses reopen around Easter, which can fall in late March or in April: check the date for your year, and expect more visitors that weekend.

Can you swim on the Amalfi Coast in March?

The sea is still at its winter low, around 15 °C in recent years (2021–2025) and 14.5 °C as the 1991–2020 average: cold for most people. Beach clubs are closed until May. March is better spent above the water: on the coastal paths, in the ceramics workshops of Vietri sul Mare, or on a sunny terrace with a view across the bay.

How do you get around the coast in March?

Travelmar ferries sail all year between Salerno, Vietri sul Mare and Amalfi, with the spring and summer timetable starting on 1 April; in March, as in winter, check the departures for the day because sailings depend on the sea. SITA buses run along the coastal road all year, and from Marina d’Albori the stop at the top of the approximately 200 steps is served towards Vietri and towards Amalfi. Regional trains from Vietri’s station reach Salerno and Pompei. The taxi boat to the cove starts in June.
